New Direct Flights to Major Hubs
Starting September 1, Madurai is set to be better connected to some of India's most crucial economic centers. Air India Express is launching new non-stop flights that will link the temple city directly with Chennai, Mumbai, and Delhi. This is a major
upgrade for travelers who previously faced limited options and high fares, particularly on the busy Madurai-Chennai sector which has been largely dominated by a single carrier. The introduction of new services is expected to bring healthy competition, which will likely result in more affordable ticket prices for passengers. Airports Authority of India (AAI) officials noted that Air India Express will use aircraft with over 180 economy seats, a significant capacity increase that should improve seat availability, especially during peak festival seasons when fares have historically soared.
