What Is the New Visa Offer?
Abu Dhabi's Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT Abu Dhabi) has launched a pilot programme that covers the cost of a UAE entry visa for Indian tourists. This initiative runs for a limited time, from August 1 to October 31, 2026, and is capped at 20,000
visas. It is not a blanket visa-waiver for all Indian passport holders. Instead, the cost of the visa is reimbursed or covered by the tourism department for travellers who book specific holiday packages. The goal is to make Abu Dhabi a more attractive and accessible destination for one of its most important international markets.
Who Is Eligible for the Free Visa?
To qualify for this offer, travellers must be Indian passport holders travelling from India. The key condition is that the trip must be booked as a qualifying package through a participating travel partner or an approved online travel agency. Independent travellers who book flights and hotels separately cannot claim this benefit. The package must include at least three consecutive nights of accommodation in an Abu Dhabi hotel and a return flight from India. This means a short stopover won't be eligible; the programme is designed to encourage longer stays in the emirate.
Crunching the Numbers: How Much Can You Actually Save?
The direct saving from this deal is the cost of the UAE entry visa itself. A standard 30-day tourist visa typically costs around 285 AED, which translates to approximately ₹6,500. For a family of four, this translates into a significant saving of around ₹26,000. While this is a welcome reduction in upfront costs, it's important to place it in the context of the total holiday budget. According to recent estimates, a mid-range 4-day trip to Abu Dhabi for a family of four can cost upwards of ₹2,00,000, covering flights, accommodation, food, and activities. The visa waiver therefore represents a saving of roughly 10-13% on the total trip cost, which is helpful but not game-changing.
Beyond the Visa: Other Costs to Consider
While the visa saving is a clear benefit, the major expenses of an Abu Dhabi holiday remain. Return flights from India can range from ₹15,000 to ₹30,000 per person, depending on the airline and how far in advance you book. Accommodation is another significant cost, with mid-range hotels costing between ₹5,500 and ₹8,500 per night. Then there are the costs for food and entry fees to Abu Dhabi's world-class attractions. A ticket to Ferrari World or Warner Bros. World can cost between ₹6,000 and ₹9,000 per person, and a desert safari is around ₹4,500. The free visa helps, but these core expenses will still form the bulk of your holiday budget.
Is It the Only Way to Save on Visas?
It's worth noting that this specific DCT Abu Dhabi programme isn't the only visa-related saving available for families. The UAE government often runs a separate summer promotion that waives visa fees for children under 18 who are travelling with a parent. For 2026, this waiver is reportedly active from July 15 to September 15. If your travel dates fall within this window, a family with children could save on their visas regardless of the DCT package deal. Travellers should check which offer provides the best value for their specific circumstances, as the two promotions are distinct.
