A Glimmering New Attraction
Dubai is preparing to add another dazzling landmark to its collection of world-firsts: a permanent walkway made of 24-carat gold. According to officials, this will be the first and longest path of its kind anywhere in the world. The announcement was made by
Rashid Al Harmoodi, a senior director at the Dubai Gold District, who confirmed the project is scheduled to open before the end of 2026, possibly within the next two months. While the exact construction details remain under wraps, the walkway is described as a 'golden path' that will offer residents and tourists a completely unique experience. The idea was first floated in January 2026 when the district was launched, with developers promising a 'Gold Street' constructed using gold. This move turns a classic figure of speech into a tangible, walkable reality, reinforcing Dubai's brand of unparalleled luxury.
The Heart of the Gold Trade
This golden path is the glittering centrepiece of the much larger Dubai Gold District, a purpose-built destination in the historic Deira area. Launched in January 2026 by developer Ithra Dubai, the district consolidates the entire gold and jewellery ecosystem—from retail and wholesale to bullion trading and investment—into one place. It's an expansion and modernization of the area surrounding the famous, traditional Gold Souk. The district is already a massive commercial hub, housing more than 1,000 retailers and attracting a global clientele. The walkway is designed to be more than just a path; it is a strategic attraction to draw more visitors and businesses, solidifying Dubai's reputation as a global centre for the gold trade.
More Than Just an Opulent Stroll
The vision behind the gold walkway extends far beyond its shiny surface. The project is a key part of Dubai's strategy to continuously innovate its tourism offerings and create 'Instagrammable' moments that capture global attention. By creating such a distinctive experience, the city aims to enhance its appeal to international visitors and distinguish itself from other luxury destinations. This initiative is also driving significant commercial growth. Since the start of 2026, the Gold District has seen a 20% increase in wholesale gold trading offices and a 15% rise in new stores specializing in jewellery and precious stones. The walkway serves as both a tourist magnet and a symbol of the district's booming business, with officials expecting the number of companies in the area to grow by another 10-20% in the coming year.
Blending Heritage with Future Ambition
The project is located in Deira, the traditional trading heart of Dubai, which gives the futuristic walkway a unique historical context. The development is part of the Deira Enrichment Project, which aims to revitalize the city's oldest commercial areas while preserving their heritage. The Dubai Gold District and its golden path are not replacing the old Gold Souk but are built alongside it, creating a bridge between Dubai's past as a merchant trading post and its future as a global metropolis. This blend of old and new allows visitors to experience the full spectrum of Dubai's identity—from the bustling, historic souks to hyper-modern architectural wonders. The walkway is a tribute to the city's long-standing connection to the gold trade, reimagined for a new generation.
