Trains depart from Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal. While less romantic than the train, it’s a practical and widely used method for getting from the capital to the northern provinces.
To the Coast: Bangkok to Krabi
Home to iconic limestone cliffs, turquoise waters, and world-class beaches like Railay, Krabi province is the gateway to Thailand's Andaman coast. Located nearly 800 kilometres south of Bangkok, reaching this tropical paradise is straightforward with a few reliable options.
By Air: Quick and Easy
Flying is by far the fastest way to get to Krabi, with a flight time of about 1 hour and 25 minutes. Like the Chiang Mai route, multiple low-cost carriers such as Thai AirAsia, Thai Lion Air, and Thai VietJet Air service Krabi (KBV) from both Don Mueang (DMK) and Suvarnabhumi (BKK) airports. With advance booking, one-way fares can be found for as little as $25-$50, making it an excellent value proposition. Given the significant time savings over land travel, flying is the most popular choice for visitors.
By Bus: The Direct Overnight Haul
The most direct and cheapest way to get to Krabi is by overnight bus from Bangkok's Southern Bus Terminal (Sai Tai Mai). The journey takes between 11 and 14 hours. The route involves taking an overnight train from Bangkok to Surat Thani, which takes about 9 to 12 hours. From Surat Thani train station, you then connect to a bus for the final 3- to 4-hour leg to Krabi. The entire journey takes around 14-15 hours.
