How Humidity Interferes
High humidity throws a wrench into this delicate process. Humidity is the measure of water vapour in the air. When the air is already saturated with moisture — as it is during humid nights — your sweat has nowhere to go. Evaporation slows down dramatically or stops altogether. Instead of cooling you down, the sweat simply sits on your skin, leading to that familiar sticky, clammy feeling. As a result, your body struggles to lower its core temperature. This forces your heart to try and cool down, putting extra strain on your cardiovascular system and keeping you in a state of physical alertness when you should be winding down.

Using an air conditioner also helps by cooling and drying the air. Promote air circulation with a ceiling or portable fan. Opt for lightweight, breathable bedding made from natural materials like cotton or linen, which wick moisture away from the body. The same goes for your sleepwear. A cool shower before bed can help lower your body temperature and wash away sweat, making it easier to drift off. Finally, stay hydrated throughout the day but avoid excessive liquids right before bed to prevent night-time awakenings.
