A Golden Path in the City of Gold
Dubai is adding another glittering entry to its long list of world records. Officials from the Dubai Gold District have confirmed plans to build what they are calling the world's first and longest walkway made entirely of 24-carat gold. Rashid Al Harmoudi,
a senior director for the district, stated that the groundbreaking tourist attraction is scheduled to open within the next two months. This new development is part of a broader strategy to cement Dubai's status as a top-tier global destination for both tourism and the gold trade. While specific details about the walkway's exact length and the amount of gold to be used have not yet been released, the announcement promises a unique experience for visitors, allowing them to literally walk a path of gold in one of the city's most prominent commercial hubs.
The New Heart of an Old Trade
The gold walkway will be located in the Dubai Gold District in Deira, a new hub launched in January 2026 designed to consolidate the city's massive gold and jewellery industry. This area already brings together over 1,000 retailers dealing in gold, precious stones, perfumes, and other luxury goods. The walkway is intended to be more than just a novelty; it is a strategic move to create a landmark that draws tourists and shoppers directly into the heart of Dubai's gold trade. The project was announced at an event celebrating another of Dubai's gold-related achievements: securing two Guinness World Records for the world's heaviest and largest pair of traditional Indian 'jhumka' earrings. The new attraction aims to fuse the district's commercial activities with an unforgettable visitor experience, making it a must-see destination.
A Strategy of Superlatives
This project is perfectly in line with Dubai's long-standing strategy of using 'world's first' and 'world's largest' titles to capture global attention and drive tourism. From the Burj Khalifa to the vast Dubai Mall and the man-made Palm Jumeirah, the city has consistently turned ambitious architectural visions into powerful marketing tools. These mega-projects are central to the Dubai Economic Agenda, known as D33, which aims to double the size of the emirate's economy by 2033. Tourism is a critical pillar of this plan, with the city welcoming a record 19.59 million international visitors in 2025. Attractions like the gold walkway are designed to keep the momentum going, ensuring Dubai remains one of the most talked-about and visited cities on the planet.
Beyond the Walkway: A Growing Ambition
The gold walkway is just one piece of a much larger puzzle. The Dubai Gold District is already undergoing expansion to accommodate growing demand, with a 20% increase in wholesale gold trading offices since the start of 2026. There are also plans for a major gold and jewellery exhibition that aims to be the largest in the Middle East. This development fits into the wider context of Dubai's ongoing mega projects, which include the expansion of Al Maktoum International Airport to become the world's largest, the construction of new Metro lines like the Blue and Gold Lines, and the revival of the Dubai Creek Tower project. Each initiative is a calculated step in the city's ambitious Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, which focuses on sustainable growth and cementing its position as a leading global hub for business and living.
