Malaysia: What to Prepare
Malaysia offers visa-free entry for Indian passport holders for tourism stays of up to 30 days, a policy extended until December 31, 2026. While you don't need to apply for a visa beforehand, immigration officers at the airport will expect you to have
specific documents ready for a smooth entry.
The Mandatory MDAC
The most crucial step before your flight is completing the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC). This is a compulsory online form that must be submitted within three days prior to your arrival. The form is free on the official immigration website and requires your passport details, flight information, and accommodation address in Malaysia. While confirmation is linked electronically to your passport, keeping a screenshot or printout is wise.
Essential Documents for Malaysia
Beyond the MDAC, be prepared to show immigration officials a few key items. Your passport must be valid for at least six months from your date of entry. You will also need a confirmed return or onward flight ticket to prove you intend to leave within the 30-day limit. Proof of accommodation, like hotel booking confirmations for at least the first few nights, is also required. While not always checked, you should be able to show proof of sufficient funds for your stay. There is no official fixed amount, but having access to funds equivalent to around USD 50 per day is a good guideline.
Thailand: Understanding the Rules
Thailand's visa policy for Indians has seen some recent changes, causing confusion. As of July 2026, Indian citizens can enter Thailand visa-free. A 60-day visa-free scheme has been in place, but the Thai Cabinet has approved a new framework that will reduce this to a 30-day visa-free stay. This new rule will take effect 15 days after it is published in the Royal Gazette. For most tourists planning shorter holidays, this change will have little practical impact. It is important to note that the visa-free entry remains, and Indians do not need to use the old Visa on Arrival system.
Key Requirements for Thailand
Similar to Malaysia, a smooth entry into Thailand requires preparation. Your passport must have at least six months of validity from your arrival date. You'll need to show a confirmed return flight ticket and proof of your accommodation. A key requirement that is sometimes enforced is proof of sufficient funds. Travelers may be asked to show they have access to 20,000 THB per person or 40,000 THB per family. This can be in the form of cash or a recent bank statement.
Thailand's Digital Arrival Card (TDAC)
Like Malaysia, Thailand has also moved to a digital system. All international travellers must fill out the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) online before arrival. This form replaces the paper-based TM6 card and is designed to streamline the immigration process. You should complete the TDAC within 72 hours of your planned arrival to avoid any potential delays at the airport.

For both Malaysia and Thailand, the process is straightforward as long as you have your digital arrival card completed and all supporting documents in order.
