The film is directed by Siddharth Anand, who previously helmed the blockbuster ‘Pathaan’. While acclaimed thriller director Sujoy Ghosh was originally attached to direct and remains a writer, Anand took over directorial duties to align with the project's expanding, larger-than-life vision. Anand is producing the film under his Marflix Pictures banner alongside Gauri Khan for Red Chillies Entertainment, ensuring a blend of high-octane action and slick production values. The music will be composed by Anirudh Ravichander, who delivered the hit soundtracks for ‘Jawan’.
A Global Spectacle in the Making
Production for ‘King’ has been an international affair. Principal photography began in May 2025, with extensive schedules in locations including Mumbai, Warsaw, Gdańsk in Poland, and Cape Town, South Africa. The action sequences are being designed to be a major highlight, with Siddharth Anand overseeing the execution to deliver a different flavour of action from ‘Pathaan’ and ‘Jawan’—more sleek and built around chase sequences. An eight-night action sequence was filmed at Ellora Studios in Mumbai, and a song sequence featuring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone was shot in Cape Town, indicating the film's grand visual scale.
The Road to a Christmas Release
Fans have been eagerly awaiting confirmation of the film's release, and the wait is finally over. During an #AskSRK session on social media, Shah Rukh Khan confirmed that ‘King’ is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on December 24, 2026, coinciding with the Christmas holiday frame. The film will be released in Hindi along with dubbed versions in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and English. The Christmas release date positions it as one of the most anticipated and potentially biggest box office events of the year.
