Parvathipuram Manyam is a district blessed with an abundance of natural splendour. Characterised by the rolling hills of the Eastern Ghats, dense forests, and a staggering number of waterfalls, its potential as a tourist destination has long been apparent.
The region is home to numerous tribal communities, whose culture is deeply interwoven with the landscape. However, despite its beauty, many of these remote areas have faced economic challenges due to a lack of infrastructure and connectivity. The winding ghat roads and scenic trails are already popular with motorcycle enthusiasts and cyclists, hinting at a larger, untapped potential for organised adventure tourism.
A New Road Forward
The district administration, in collaboration with the Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA), has launched an innovative plan to change this narrative: adventure bike tourism. The core idea is to create curated motorcycle routes that allow tourists to explore the district's hidden gems while directly contributing to the local economy. This initiative builds on the success of a pilot project—the state's first tribal bike taxi service—which was introduced to help tourists reach remote waterfalls that were previously only accessible by trekking several kilometres. The positive response to this service demonstrated a clear demand for such experiences, paving the way for a more comprehensive district-wide programme.
Charting the Course for Adventure
District Collector Prabhakar Reddy has directed officials to develop a detailed action plan. The project involves identifying safe, 30-kilometre tourism circuits that connect waterfalls, scenic viewpoints, and cultural sites across all four of the district's assembly constituencies. The administration is meticulously planning every detail, from identifying safe riding routes and trekking trails to ensuring the availability of rest shelters and secure overnight stay facilities for tourists. This infrastructure development is crucial for transforming the region into a viable and attractive destination for adventure seekers. The plan also includes promoting activities like rock climbing to further broaden the appeal.
More Than Just a Scenic Ride
At its heart, this project is a community-led initiative designed to generate sustainable livelihoods. The goal is to create a holistic ecosystem where tourism revenue flows directly to the tribal youth and their families. This includes training local youth as certified tour guides and mechanics. The administration also plans to support the establishment of homestays, food courts, and shops selling local products, like the region's famous Savara Adivasi paintings. By empowering locals to take ownership of the tourism experience, the initiative aims to preserve the district's unique cultural heritage while fostering economic independence.
