Why This Disruption Is Happening
Indian Railways is undertaking significant yard remodelling and non-interlocking work to connect a crucial third railway line between Bina station (West Central Railway) and Agasod station (North Central Railway). This essential upgrade is designed to increase
the operational capacity of both yards, leading to better management of train movements, higher efficiency, and improved punctuality in the long run. The work is scheduled to take place in phases, with major disruptions planned from late September through mid-October 2026.
Fully Cancelled Train Services
Several train services will be fully cancelled on specific dates. Passengers are advised to not plan travel on these services during the mentioned periods. Key cancellations impacting October travel include: 12197 Bhopal-Gwalior Intercity: Cancelled from October 1 to October 15. 12198 Gwalior-Bhopal Intercity: Cancelled from October 1 to October 15. 22161 Bhopal-Damoh Rajyarani Express: Cancelled from October 9 to October 15. 22162 Damoh-Bhopal Rajyarani Express: Cancelled from October 10 to October 16. 22163 Bhopal-Khajuraho Mahamana Express: Cancelled on October 15. 22164 Khajuraho-Bhopal Mahamana Express: Cancelled on October 15. 11086 Gwalior-SMVT Bengaluru Express: Cancelled on October 2 and October 9. 11085 SMVT Bengaluru-Gwalior Express: Cancelled on October 4 and October 11. 22169 Rani Kamalapati-Santragachi Humsafar Express: Cancelled on October 14. 22170 Santragachi-Rani Kamalapati Humsafar Express: Cancelled on October 15. Additionally, several MEMU services, including those between Bina-Ruthiyai and Bina-Katni Murwara, face cancellations for multiple trips until October 15/16.
Diverted Train Routes
To keep long-distance services running, West Central Railway has diverted 17 trains via alternative routes. Passengers on these trains will not miss their service, but should account for longer travel times and the skipping of regular stops. Major diversions include: 12185 Rewa-Rani Kamalapati Rewanchal Express: Will run via Katni, Jabalpur, and Itarsi from October 8 to 14. 11703 Rewa-Dr Ambedkar Nagar Tri-Weekly Express: Will be diverted via Bina Malkhedi, Guna, and Maksi on October 8, 10, and 13. * 11465 Veraval-Jabalpur & 11466 Jabalpur-Veraval Express: Will be diverted via Bhopal and Itarsi on specific dates in mid-October. Other services, including the Gondwana Express and several trains heading towards South India, will also operate on revised paths. Travellers should check the exact diverted route for their specific train.
Short-Terminated and Short-Originated Trains
A number of services will not complete their full journey, instead terminating at or originating from an intermediate station. This means passengers will have to make alternative arrangements for the last leg of their travel. Key changes include: 11602 Katni-Bina MEMU: Will be short-terminated at Khurai from September 29 to October 15. 11601 Bina-Katni MEMU: Will short-originate from Khurai (instead of Bina) from September 30 to October 16. 11603 Kota-Bina MEMU: Will be short-terminated at Mahadevkhedi from September 30 to October 16. 61631/11605 Bhopal-Bina MEMU services: Will be short-terminated at Mandibamora on various dates from October 7 to October 15. Passengers booked on these trains should verify the new originating or terminating station before commencing their journey.
What Passengers Should Do
With dozens of services affected over several weeks, planning ahead is crucial. Indian Railways advises all passengers to check the live status of their train before leaving for the station. You can use the National Train Enquiry System (NTES) app or website for the most current information on cancellations, diversions, and timings. For fully cancelled trains, refunds for e-tickets are typically processed automatically. If you have a counter ticket, you can claim a refund by visiting a reservation counter. For diverted or short-terminated services, it is vital to check the new route and final stop to avoid inconvenience. Consider looking into alternative connecting trains or road transport options if your travel plans are severely impacted.
