India is prone to a wide range of natural disasters, from cyclones and floods to forest fires and landslides. Past satellites in low-Earth orbit could only provide periodic snapshots. EOS-05, however, operates from a geosynchronous orbit, meaning it stays
over the Indian subcontinent continuously. This allows for the frequent, rapid monitoring of developing situations like a cyclone making landfall or the spread of a forest fire. For disaster management agencies, this stream of data is invaluable. It enables them to issue timely warnings, plan more effective evacuation routes, and deploy resources with greater precision, ultimately saving lives and reducing damage on the ground.
Boosting Agricultural Productivity
The backbone of the Indian economy, agriculture, is highly dependent on weather and environmental conditions. Satellites in the EOS series are designed to support this vital sector. EOS-05 can provide broad and frequent assessments of crop health, soil moisture levels, and vegetation cover across the nation.
