Day 1: Arrival and the Rush to Havelock
Your journey begins at Veer Savarkar International Airport in Port Blair, the gateway to the Andaman Islands. Most flights from major Indian cities land in the morning, which works perfectly. Don't linger in Port Blair; the real magic lies ahead. Head
straight to the Phoenix Bay Jetty to catch a ferry to Havelock Island (now officially Swaraj Dweep). **Pro-Tip:** Book your ferry tickets online in advance, especially if you're travelling on a weekend. Private operators like Makruzz and Green Ocean offer fast, air-conditioned catamarans that take about 90 minutes. A government ferry is a cheaper but slower alternative. Once you arrive in Havelock, check into your hotel, grab a scooter on rent (the best way to explore), and head to Kaala Pathar Beach for a serene sunset. The dramatic black rocks against the white sand make for a stunning first evening.
Day 2: Havelock’s World-Famous Beaches
Today is all about experiencing why Havelock is on every traveller’s bucket list. Start your morning with a trip to Elephant Beach. You can get there via a short boat ride or a guided forest trek. Famous for its calm, shallow waters and vibrant coral reefs, it's the perfect spot for first-time snorkelers. You’ll find plenty of operators on the beach offering guided snorkelling and other water sports. In the afternoon, make your way to the star attraction: Radhanagar Beach (Beach No. 7). Consistently ranked among the best beaches in Asia, its vast expanse of pristine white sand and breathtakingly blue water lives up to the hype. It’s ideal for a long swim and watching one of the most spectacular sunsets you will ever witness. For dinner, explore the small restaurants near the main market for some fresh, delicious seafood.
Day 3: The Laid-Back Vibe of Neil Island
After breakfast, catch a morning ferry from Havelock to Neil Island (Shaheed Dweep). This smaller, quieter island offers a more rustic and relaxed atmosphere. The journey takes about an hour. After checking in, rent a bicycle or a scooter to explore its charming, narrow roads fringed with paddy fields and fruit plantations. Your first stop should be Bharatpur Beach, located right next to the jetty. With its gentle waves and beautiful coral, it’s another great spot for swimming and glass-bottom boat rides. Later, head to Laxmanpur Beach for the sunset. The beach is famous for its natural rock formations, including a stunning natural bridge (only visible during low tide). As the sun goes down, the sky here lights up in dramatic hues of orange and pink, creating a picture-perfect end to your day.
Day 4: One Last Glimpse and Departure
Enjoy a final, leisurely island breakfast. Depending on your flight schedule, you can either spend the morning relaxing or visit Sitapur Beach on Neil Island, which is known for its beautiful sunrises. Catch a late morning or early afternoon ferry back to Port Blair. The trip from Neil to Port Blair takes about two hours. Once you're back in Port Blair, you can grab lunch or do some last-minute souvenir shopping for local crafts at the Aberdeen Bazaar if time permits. From there, it’s a short ride to the airport for your flight home, carrying with you memories of turquoise waters, powdery sands, and the blissful quiet of island life.
