This can lead to a state of hidden dehydration where you don't feel as thirsty as you should.
Decoding 'Secret' Mineral Loss
The “secret minerals” you’re losing are electrolytes. These are essential minerals like sodium, potassium, magnesium, and calcium that carry an electrical charge in your body fluids. They are absolutely vital for countless bodily functions, including maintaining proper fluid balance, enabling muscle contractions, transmitting nerve signals, and regulating your heartbeat. When you sweat excessively, you don't just lose water; you lose these crucial electrolytes along with it. Your kitchen is full of natural electrolyte sources. Coconut water is often called 'nature's sports drink' for its rich potassium and magnesium content. Bananas are a fantastic source of potassium, crucial for preventing muscle cramps. A bowl of dahi (yogurt) or a glass of chaas (buttermilk) after your workout can replenish sodium and calcium. Other great options include leafy greens like spinach, watermelon, and dates. A simple glass of lemon water with a pinch of salt can also do wonders.
