The Human Touch: Edit, Refine, and Personalise
AI is a fantastic assistant, but it is not the final author. The draft it produces is your starting point, not the finished product. The most critical step is to review and edit the generated text. Check for factual accuracy and ensure the tone sounds like you. AI can sometimes produce generic or stiff phrasing. Rewrite sentences to inject your unique voice and personality. Add a specific, genuine sentence about why you are interested in this company—perhaps mentioning a recent project, a company value you admire, or your experience with their products. This personal touch is what ultimately wins over a hiring manager.
Formatting for Bot and Human Success
Even the best-written cover letter can fail if the ATS can't read it. Simplicity is key. Avoid complex formatting like tables, columns, or images. Stick to standard, professional fonts like Arial, Calibri, or Times New Roman in a 10-12 point size. Don't place critical information, like your contact details, in the header or footer, as some systems may skip these sections. Save the document as a .docx or PDF file, as these are the most universally accepted formats.
