Ashwin emphasised that a leader who has won five IPL titles and a World Cup for his country possesses a rare cricketing intellect that a franchise like MI would not let go of. He differentiated Rohit's potential path from that of Virat Kohli, whom Ashwin believes might prefer a complete break from the game after retirement. For Rohit, however, Ashwin sees a seamless transition into a mentorship or coaching position as a natural next step.
