The Coastal Classic: Mumbai to Goa
The drive from Mumbai to Goa is an iconic Indian road trip, but winter makes it truly special. The punishing humidity of the coast gives way to pleasant, breezy weather, perfect for rolling down the windows. While the faster NH 48 via Pune is smooth and
efficient, the real magic lies on the coastal route (NH 66). This path winds through the heart of the Konkan, offering glimpses of the Arabian Sea, quaint fishing villages, and lush paddy fields. The journey of approximately 600 km is best enjoyed with an overnight halt in towns like Ganpatipule or Malvan. This allows you to savour authentic Malvani seafood, explore historic sea forts, and enjoy quiet, pristine beaches without the monsoon rush or summer heat. The roads are generally in good condition post-monsoon, making it a comfortable and scenic drive.
