A Monsoon Marvel: Udyan Utsav-II
While the spring bloom of Amrit Udyan is famous, the monsoon edition offers a different kind of magic. The gardens, spread over 15 acres, are transformed into a vibrant green paradise, with rain-washed lawns and fresh, glistening foliage. This phase,
known as the Summer Annuals or Udyan Utsav-II, showcases a variety of seasonal flowers that thrive in the humid weather, providing a unique visual treat. It’s a chance to see the iconic gardens, which blend Mughal and English landscaping styles, in a more serene and less crowded atmosphere. For 2026, the gates are open to the public from August 16 to September 15.
Timings, Entry, and Special Days
Amrit Udyan is open to visitors from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with the last entry permitted at 5:00 PM. It’s important to note that the gardens remain closed every Monday for maintenance. Entry is through Gate No. 35 on North Avenue Road. There will also be special visiting days exclusively for certain groups: August 29 for sports persons and September 5 for teachers. Plan your visit on a weekday morning or late afternoon to avoid the weekend rush and enjoy more pleasant weather.
Booking is Free but Mandatory
Entry to Amrit Udyan is completely free of charge. However, do not expect to walk in without a reservation. Online booking is mandatory and must be done in advance through the official Rashtrapati Bhavan website. Slots for a particular day close at 10:00 AM the day before, so it's crucial to plan ahead. Each booking can accommodate up to six people. Once booked, you will receive a digital visitor pass which you should keep on your mobile phone, along with a government-issued photo ID, to present at the entrance. Arriving at your designated time slot helps ensure smooth entry.
Getting There and On-Site Facilities
The most convenient way to reach Amrit Udyan is by metro. The Central Secretariat station is the nearest, and a free shuttle bus service is available to ferry visitors to Gate No. 35. For visitors, facilities like drinking water, first-aid stations, and restrooms are available along the designated route. Sheltered areas have also been set up to provide protection from sudden downpours. Inside, there is also a food court where snacks and beverages can be purchased.
What to Carry (and What to Leave Behind)
Given the season, carrying an umbrella is a must. Wear comfortable, waterproof footwear suitable for walking on potentially wet pathways. You are allowed to carry your mobile phone, wallet, and a purse or small handbag. For those with infants, milk bottles and essential baby items are permitted. However, a strict list of prohibited items includes all outside eatables, backpacks, cameras, and video cameras. Adhering to these rules is essential for a hassle-free entry and a pleasant visit for everyone.
