Striking Exterior Design
This new electric sedan presents a modern and refined exterior, embodying a fresh design philosophy. At the front, it features sleek, minimalist lighting
elements complemented by distinctive daytime running lights. The bumper is integrated with a substantial air dam and subtle vertical air intakes on each side, finished in a gloss black that adds a touch of sophistication. Broad front fenders contribute to a sporty and dynamic stance, while the side profile adheres to a more conventional three-box sedan shape, eschewing the coupe-like silhouette common in many electric vehicles. BMW describes this as a "2.5-box" design, characterized by smooth, uncluttered surfaces, flush door handles, and stylish alloy wheels. The rear design is sharp and uncomplicated, with slim, separate tail lamps and understated black detailing at the lower section. Dimensionally, it measures 4,760mm in length, 1,865mm in width, and boasts a wheelbase of 2,897mm.
Futuristic Cabin Experience
Stepping inside, the cabin offers a glimpse into the future with its minimalist and high-tech aesthetic. Many interior elements are shared with the iX3, including a distinctive steering wheel design. A prominent 17.9-inch infotainment screen dominates the dashboard, enhanced by a wide Panoramic Vision display that spans the entire dashboard, serving a dual purpose as both an infotainment interface and a driver's display. Physical controls have been significantly reduced, with essential functions managed through minimalist buttons and a rotary drive selector located on the centre console. Feature highlights include powered front seats, customizable ambient lighting, wireless charging capabilities, Level 2 Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS), an advanced AI assistant, and an optional 3D heads-up display for enhanced driver information.
Unprecedented Performance
Built upon the advanced 800V Neue Klasse platform, this electric sedan is set to offer exceptional performance. Initially, it will be available with a dual-motor '50 xDrive' configuration, delivering a robust 469 horsepower and 645 Nm of torque. While the exact battery capacity hasn't been officially disclosed, it's anticipated to feature a substantial 108.7kWh pack, comparable to the iX3. This powertrain enables an astonishing WLTP-certified range of 900 kilometers on a single charge. Furthermore, the vehicle supports ultra-fast 400kW DC charging, capable of adding approximately 400 kilometers of range in just 10 minutes, alongside 22kW AC charging for convenient home or public charging.
Production and Availability
Production of this innovative electric sedan is slated to commence at BMW's Munich plant in August 2026. Following the start of manufacturing, global deliveries are expected to begin later in the same year. For the Indian market, the iX3 is anticipated to be introduced first by early 2027. The prospect of the i3 sedan also being launched in India remains to be seen, depending on market reception and strategic decisions by the manufacturer.
