The Unexpected Diagnosis
Rana Daggubati, known for his commanding presence on screen, recently unveiled the significant health adversities he navigated. The 'Baahubali' star shared
that he confronted serious cardiac issues and experienced kidney failure, referring to his subsequent recovery period as a distinct 'Chapter 2' in his personal narrative. He described the initial realization of his health crisis as a profound shock, admitting that one rarely anticipates personal illness, often considering oneself the unassailable center of their universe. This experience was the first time he truly grasped the fragility of his own existence, a stark contrast to the familiar empathy and concern one extends to ailing loved ones. He articulated the disorientation of not knowing how to process such a revelation when it directly impacts oneself.
Embarking on Recovery
Following the confirmation that his treatment would necessitate surgical intervention and an extensive recovery phase, Rana promptly set aside all his professional obligations. This included pausing the filming of a movie he was actively involved in. His journey for treatment led him to the United States, marking an unprecedented stretch of time he spent in solitude. He described this period as one of intense introspection, being solely in his own company and thoughts. It was within this solitary environment that he began to deeply contemplate his life's purpose. He expressed that without a clear understanding of one's 'why,' everything else loses its significance, as our perceived realities are ultimately constructed from the narratives within our own minds.
A Transformed Perspective
This life-threatening health scare instigated a significant reevaluation of Rana's fundamental approach to life. He explained that his prior modus operandi was based on the assumption of his eventual absence, hence his efforts to build everything in a way that could continue functioning independently without him. Previously, his endeavors were centered around his own presence and involvement. However, from that point forward, his entire outlook on life underwent a considerable transformation. His co-host, Rhea Chakraborty, reminisced about Rana's indomitable spirit during this challenging time, noting his persistent 'beast mode' demeanor, which remained evident even throughout a year-long battle with his health.
Grappling with Health Issues
Rana's critical health episode occurred shortly after the immense success of 'Baahubali 2: The Conclusion' in 2017. In a conversation with Samantha Ruth Prabhu on her show 'Sam Jam,' he disclosed a lifelong struggle with high blood pressure, coupled with calcification around his heart and kidney failure. He candidly shared the alarming statistics he was presented with: a 70% probability of experiencing a stroke or hemorrhage and a 30% chance of mortality, underscoring the severe nature of his condition.
Conquering Additional Hurdles
Beyond the cardiac and renal issues, Rana has also contended with other significant medical challenges. Notably, he faced severe vision impairment that necessitated a corneal transplant. In a 2017 interview with PTI, he mentioned that this particular health concern was known to very few people. He acknowledged that it presented certain limitations but emphasized the crucial need for inner strength to continue moving forward despite such obstacles.
