Convenient Travel Options
Passengers embarking on journeys from Shimla's Tutikandi ISBT now have a streamlined travel solution with the introduction of a prepaid taxi service. This
new initiative, operated by the Taxi Union, comprises a fleet of 115 vehicles dedicated to serving a wide network of destinations. The service covers 26 distinct points within Shimla city itself, ensuring local residents and visitors can reach their desired spots with ease. Beyond the city limits, the service extends to two crucial out-of-town locations: Chandigarh International Airport and Chandigarh city, providing a vital link for those traveling between these regions. This comprehensive coverage aims to enhance connectivity and reduce the hassle often associated with arranging transport.
Simplified Booking Process
The operation of this prepaid taxi service is designed for simplicity and efficiency, aiming to provide a hassle-free booking experience for every passenger. Travelers are required to visit the dedicated prepaid taxi counter situated at ISBT, Tutikandi. Once at the counter, passengers will book their taxi and complete the payment for their intended journey. Following the payment, they will be issued a payment slip, which serves as their receipt and confirmation. This slip is a crucial document that passengers must present to their designated taxi driver. The driver will then proceed to drop the passenger at the agreed-upon destination. Upon returning to the station, the driver will submit this slip to the counter to finalize the payment for the completed trip, thus completing the cycle of the prepaid service.
Transparent and Revised Fares
To ensure clarity and prevent disputes, the Himachal Pradesh Transport Department has officially revised the fare rates applicable to these prepaid taxis. These updated fares are specifically for point-to-point journeys originating from Shimla's Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT). The revised rates, notified under the Himachal Pradesh Pre-Paid Taxi Scheme-2004, establish fixed costs for popular routes. For instance, the journey from ISBT, Shimla, to Chandigarh (City) is now set at Rs 3,000 for a standard taxi and Rs 5,000 for a maxi cab. Similarly, the fare to Chandigarh International Airport is fixed at Rs 3,500 for a taxi and Rs 5,500 for a maxi cab. This advance payment system significantly reduces the potential for disagreements between passengers and drivers regarding the cost of travel.
Enhanced Passenger Experience
The introduction of this prepaid taxi service brings significant benefits for both tourists and local residents, primarily by enhancing passenger safety and ensuring a more predictable travel experience. By collecting payment upfront at a designated counter, the service effectively eliminates the possibility of passengers facing unexpected fare hikes or disputes with drivers during their journey. This transparent pricing model, solidified by the officially notified fare rates, instills confidence and provides peace of mind. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu highlighted that this initiative promotes transparency and contributes to a safer travel environment, ultimately benefiting everyone who utilizes the service for their transportation needs.
