Digital Ticketing Milestone
Indian Railways has witnessed an extraordinary surge in digital ticket bookings, largely propelled by its dedicated mobile application, RailOne. This platform
has now garnered an impressive 2.57 crore downloads, signifying its widespread adoption by travelers across the nation. Complementing this, the app consistently handles an average of 7.64 lakh ticket bookings on a daily basis. This substantial volume of transactions highlights the growing reliance on digital channels for train travel. In fact, approximately 88 percent of all reserved train tickets are now being procured through online means. This significant shift underscores the effectiveness of Indian Railways' strategy to leverage technology for enhanced passenger convenience and operational efficiency, moving beyond traditional counter bookings.
Unified Booking Experience
The RailOne application represents a significant leap forward in passenger services, consolidating a multitude of essential railway functions into a single, user-friendly interface. It seamlessly integrates the booking of both reserved and unreserved train tickets, alongside other vital services. Passengers can now easily purchase platform tickets, access real-time train schedule information, check their PNR status, and even utilize the Railmadad system for lodging grievances and seeking redressal. This comprehensive integration means travelers no longer need to navigate multiple platforms or visit physical locations for various ticketing needs. The app, available on both the Android Play Store and Apple App Store, ensures advanced security and privacy measures are in place, offering a secure and reliable booking experience for all users, bringing the entire Passenger Reservation System (PRS) and Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) directly to their fingertips.
Agent Network Expansion
To further broaden access to railway ticketing, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas, Indian Railways has established a diverse network of ticketing agents. This initiative not only promotes self-employment opportunities but also ensures that ticketing facilities are readily available to a wider populace. Various agent categories exist, including halt agents, Jan Sadharan Ticket Booking Sevaks, and Station Ticket Booking Agents, who primarily facilitate unreserved ticket sales. Additionally, Yatri Tickets Suvidha Kendra Licensees are equipped to handle both reserved and unreserved ticket bookings. Complementing this, the Indian Railway Catering & Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) also engages E-ticketing agents to manage reserved e-ticket issuance. Importantly, there is no prior experience required in issuing railway tickets to be engaged in these roles, making these opportunities accessible to educated unemployed youth and others seeking to contribute to public service delivery.
