Digital Leap Achieved
Indian Railways has witnessed a monumental shift in passenger ticketing with its dedicated application, RailOne App. The platform has amassed an impressive
2.57 crore downloads, underscoring its widespread adoption by the traveling public. Furthermore, the app facilitates an average of 7.64 lakh ticket bookings on a daily basis, a testament to its crucial role in the nation's transportation network. This digital transformation is further highlighted by the fact that approximately 88 percent of all reserved train tickets are now procured through online channels, a substantial increase driven by the accessibility and ease offered by these technological advancements. The government has actively promoted these digital solutions to streamline the booking process for both reserved and unreserved tickets, bringing the Passenger Reservation System (PRS) and Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) directly to passengers' fingertips.
Integrated Passenger Services
The RailOne App stands out as a comprehensive solution, consolidating a multitude of essential railway services into a single, user-friendly interface. Passengers can now effortlessly manage their travel needs, from booking both reserved and unreserved tickets to obtaining platform tickets. The application also provides real-time train enquiries, PNR status checks, and access to the Railmadad portal for grievance redressal, creating a seamless experience. Prioritizing user safety, the app incorporates advanced security and privacy measures. Beyond the RailOne application, Indian Railways also facilitates reserved ticket bookings through the official website and app of the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), offering alternative digital avenues for passengers to plan their journeys.
Empowering Ticket Agents
To ensure widespread access to ticketing services, Indian Railways has established a network of agents who play a vital role, particularly in unreserved ticketing. This network includes Halt Agents, Jan Sadharan Ticket Booking Sevaks, and Station Ticket Booking Agents. Additionally, Yatri Tickets Suvidha Kendra Licensees assist with both reserved and unreserved ticket issuance. A notable aspect of these schemes is the absence of prior experience requirements for individuals seeking to become agents, thereby fostering self-employment opportunities. This inclusivity particularly benefits educated unemployed youth and enhances ticketing accessibility in rural and semi-urban regions. The IRCTC also engages E-ticketing agents specifically for issuing reserved e-tickets, further broadening the reach of online booking services. Agents are appointed for defined periods, adhering to specific terms and conditions, with provisions for renewal and continuous recruitment to maintain operational efficiency.
