Commission Formation & Timeline
The Union Cabinet has given the green light for the establishment of the 8th Central Pay Commission, a temporary body tasked with reviewing and recommending
changes to government employee compensation. This commission is expected to finalize its comprehensive recommendations within a 18-month period from the date of its formal constitution. Importantly, it retains the flexibility to submit interim reports on specific matters as soon as recommendations for those particular aspects are ready. This phased approach ensures that some aspects of pay and benefits could see adjustments sooner, rather than waiting for the entire review cycle to conclude. All stakeholders are encouraged to participate in this review process, as their feedback is fundamental to the commission's work.
Your Input is Crucial
The 8th Pay Commission's official website is now accessible, opening a direct channel for central government employees, pensioners, and other interested parties to voice their opinions. The commission is actively soliciting views, opinions, and inputs through a structured questionnaire available on the MyGov.in web portal. This questionnaire comprises 18 specific questions designed to gather comprehensive feedback on pay, pensions, and allowances. Responses are welcome from a wide array of individuals and groups, including various ministries and departments, state and union territory employees, judicial officers, court staff, members of regulatory bodies, associations representing serving or retired employees, pensioners, researchers, academics, and the general public.
How to Submit Suggestions
To ensure all feedback is processed efficiently and accurately, the 8th Pay Commission will only consider responses submitted through the MyGov portal. Physical submissions via paper, email, or PDF will not be entertained. The deadline for submitting your valuable suggestions is Monday, March 16th, 2026. For government employees, ministries, departments, and union territories, specific links are provided to access the questionnaire for nodal or sub-nodal officers. All submissions are handled with utmost confidentiality, with respondents' names kept private and their feedback analyzed on an aggregate, non-attributable basis to inform the commission's decision-making.
Key Areas of Focus
The questionnaire distributed by the 8th CPC delves into several critical areas that directly impact the remuneration and benefits of central government personnel. A significant focus is placed on the 'fitment factor,' a key determinant in salary revisions that influences how basic pay is adjusted across different pay levels. Additionally, the questions explore expectations regarding annual increments, the overall pay hike anticipated, and the prevailing pensionary benefits and allowances. The commission aims to gain a thorough understanding of the current landscape and stakeholder aspirations to formulate recommendations that are both equitable and reflective of economic realities.
