Extortion Scare Erupts
The glamorous world of Bollywood found itself in a state of alarm when prominent actors Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone became the targets of a serious
extortion attempt. Reports indicate that Ranveer received a disturbing voice note via WhatsApp from an unknown individual, demanding an astronomical sum of approximately ₹10 crore. In response to this grave threat, the couple swiftly moved to reinforce the security at their Mumbai residence. This immediate action involved deploying six armed security personnel to provide round-the-clock protection. The incident has sent ripples through the industry, raising concerns about the safety of high-profile personalities and the potential for organized criminal elements to target them.
Security Measures & Community Friction
The heightened security measures implemented by Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone at their home, while aimed at ensuring their safety, have inadvertently sparked concerns within their housing society. The presence of armed guards in common areas such as the lobby, gymnasium, and children's play zone has reportedly caused unease among other residents. An official letter was dispatched by the society's managing committee to the Dadar Police Station, expressing significant worry over the armed deployment and requesting verification of necessary permissions. Although a uniformed police officer has also been stationed at the property, the Mumbai Crime Branch is diligently working to trace the origin of the digital threat and apprehend the perpetrator.
Criminal Links Under Scrutiny
Investigators are actively exploring potential connections between the extortion threat directed at Ranveer Singh and the activities of notorious criminal gangs that have previously targeted celebrities. Specifically, the probe is examining links to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, which has been implicated in similar threats against several prominent figures in the entertainment sector. The recent firing incident outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty's Juhu residence is also being investigated for any potential ties to this ongoing inquiry. The efforts to trace the extortionist's digital footprint are paramount in establishing these connections and ensuring the safety of the individuals involved.
Career Milestones Amidst Crisis
Despite the personal security crisis, Ranveer Singh is currently basking in the immense success of his latest film, 'Dhurandhar.' This spy thriller, directed by Aditya Dhar, has achieved a monumental feat, becoming the highest-grossing Indian film of 2025 with worldwide earnings exceeding ₹1,300 crore. The movie, which features Ranveer in the role of an Indian spy operating within terror networks in Lyari, Pakistan, is now available on Netflix and has generated significant anticipation for its sequel, 'Dhurandhar: The Revenge,' slated for a March 19, 2026 release. Meanwhile, Deepika Padukone, who welcomed their daughter Dua in September 2024, is preparing for her upcoming role in the action thriller 'King,' where she will star alongside Shah Rukh Khan.
