Christopher Nolan’s latest outing, The Odyssey, has started its box office run on a solid note in India. The epic fantasy drama, released on July 17, attracted audiences across premium screens and multiplexes on its opening day.
Released in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, the English (2D) version of the film witnessed stronger occupancies in several metro cities. The Hindi version also contributed significantly to the overall collections.

According to trade website Sacnilk, The Odysseyminted ₹17.40 crore net at the Indian box office on its first day across all languages. The film’s gross collection stood at ₹20.76 crore in India, while its total India net collection also reached ₹17.40 crore after the first day.
The film was screened across 8,413 shows and recorded an overall occupancy of 48.7% on its opening Friday.
The Odyssey’s Hindi and English performance
The English-language release contributed an estimated ₹13.75 crore net, making it the biggest contributor to the film’s opening-day business.
Chennai registered the highest overall occupancy at 52.8% from 118 shows, followed by Hyderabad with 43.3% across 286 shows. Kochi recorded 36.8% occupancy from 106 shows, while Bengaluru reported 29.8% across 439 shows.
The Hindi version, on the other hand, earned around ₹1.90 crore, followed by the Telugu version with approximately ₹1.10 crore. The Tamil version added an estimated ₹65 lakh to the film's Day 1 total.
With its opening-day collection,The Odyssey has entered the list of the biggest Hollywood openers in India. But it remains behind Avatar: Fire and Ash, which opened at around ₹18 crore nett, and Deadpool & Wolverine, which collected an estimated ₹21 crore net on its first day.

Matt Damon headlines the film as Odysseus. The ensemble cast also includes Tom Holland as Telemachus, Anne Hathaway as Penelope and Robert Pattinson as Antinous.
