Jana Nayagan box office collection day 1: Thalapathy Vijay’s last film mints ₹41 crore in India

Thalapathy Vijay’s farewell film, Jana Nayagan, opened to a solid response at the box office amid massive fanfare and hype. The H Vinoth directorial collected an estimated ₹41 crore (net) in India on its opening day, according to trade tracker Sacnilk.

As per the early estimates, the film recorded a net collection of ₹41 crore across 13,067 shows, taking its India gross to ₹48.27 crore. Overseas, the political action drama earned an estimated ₹30 crore (gross), pushing its worldwide gross collection to ₹78.27 crore.

Talking about the language-wise collections, the Tamil version dominated the opening-day business with ₹36.50 crore, while the Telugu version contributed ₹2.75 crore. The Hindi version added ₹1.75 crore to the film’s domestic total.

Despite the impressive start, Jana Nayagan fell short of surpassing the opening-day collections of Vijay’s previous releases. His 2022 film Beast had opened at ₹49.30 crore (net), while The Greatest of All Time (GOAT) collected ₹44 crore (net) on its first day.

The Tamil political thriller saw an overall occupancy rate of 68.31% on Thursday, July 23, 2026. It increased in the morning, reaching its highest at 73.85%. The afternoon shows showed down at 62.46%, and evening shows at 63.62%. The occupancy rate, however, peaked again with night shows at 73.31%.

Made under the direction of H Vinoth, the film features Vijay in a politically charged role that aligns with his real-life political aspirations.

Alongside Thalapathy Vijay, the political action drama features an ensemble cast of talented actors including Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Prakash Raj, Priyamani, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Mamitha Baiju, Narain, Monish Blessy, Teejay, and others in pivotal roles.

Bankrolled by Jagadish Palanisamy, Venkat K Narayana, and Lohith NK under the banner of KVN Productions, the film’s music has been composed by Anirudh Ravichander.
