What is the story about?
The overseas theatrical rollout for director Nitesh Tiwari’s mythological epic Ramayana: Part One opened to sharp early momentum in the United States, crossing $150,000 in presales within 24 hours of tickets going live on US ticketing platform Fandango.
The film is slated for a worldwide theatrical release on November 5, 2026, across standard and premium large-screen formats, including IMAX. Mounted as an ambitious two-part cinematic adaptation of Valmiki’s 'Ramayana', the project ranks among Indian cinema's most expensive undertakings, with an estimated combined budget exceeding ₹4,000 crore across both instalments.
The production is co-backed by Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios alongside Kannada star Yash’s Monster Mind Creations, with visual effects executed by global VFX powerhouse DNEG.
Ranbir Kapoor headlines the cast as Lord Ram opposite Yash as Ravana, while Sai Pallavi portrays Sita. The ensemble includes Sunny Deol as Hanuman, Ravi Dubey as Lakshman, Arun Govil as Dasharatha, and Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi, alongside Anupam Kher, Kajal Aggarwal, Rakul Preet Singh, Vivek Oberoi, Kunal Kapoor, and Indira Krishnan.
The production also marks a major musical crossover, featuring an original score and soundtrack composed jointly by Academy Award winners A.R. Rahman and Hans Zimmer.
The feature also ends a three-year screen absence for Kapoor following the record-breaking box-office run of Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Animal (2023).
The project has lined up global theatrical distribution partnerships, with Sony Pictures Releasing handling international territories and Dharma Productions overseeing the domestic Hindi theatrical release. Following the North American box-office launch, the domestic distribution machinery is preparing for the Indian market rollout, where advance booking windows across multiplex chains are scheduled to open on the occasion of Dussehra ahead of the film's November 5 debut.
