The San Diego Comic-Con could not have been more special for Marvel fans. The studio announced a highly anticipated lineup of upcoming projects. The biggest reveals included Ryan Gosling entering the MCU franchise as
Ghost Rider and the confirmation of Black Panther 3.
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige announced release dates and unveiled directors and cast members for the upcoming releases.
Marvel confirms Ryan Gosling in Ghost Rider
The biggest surprise, Ryan Gosling, was confirmed to play Ghost Riderin a standalone Marvel Studios film. The project will be directed by Shawn Levy, marking Gosling's and Levy’s reunion after their Star Wars collaboration, set to arrive in theatres next year. Both Gosling and Levy were present at the event and took the stage to talk about their upcoming collaboration.
Following Nicolas Cage’s role as Johnny Blaze in 2007’s Ghost Rider and its 2011 sequel Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, Gosling is set to become only the second actor to portray Ghost Rider in a live-action film. The highly anticipated project is scheduled for a 2028 release.
Ryan Coogler to return in Black Panther 3
Marvel also announced that director Ryan Coogler is all set to return to direct the upcoming instalment of Black Panther, which will release at the theatres on December 15, 2028. Coogler took the stage to introduce David Jonsson as the franchise’s new Black Panther and confirmed that both Letitia Wright and Winston Duke will reprise their roles as Shuri and M’Baku in the upcoming film.
Other future releases
During the event the studio also confirmed its plans to expand both its supernatural and Wakandan storylines in the upcoming years. The studio rolled out a trailer for the Avengers: Endgame re-release, dubbed Endgame Encore, which will have an exclusive sneak peek at Avengers: Doomsday.
It is also speculated that Deadpool may have cameo in both Avengers: Doomsday and the 2027 Star Wars film, but Feige skipped commenting on this matter, leaving fans extremely curious.
