What is the story about?
A day after Diljit Dosanjh’s film Satluj was taken down from OTT platform ZEE5, the actor came live on Instagram and addressed the matter.
Dosanj interacted with fans who flooded the comments section supporting the film and saying they had already downloaded the film before it was removed. Reacting to such comments Dosanjh seemed happy that so many people had managed to watch the film. He also urged his fans to share the link with each other so that more people could get the chance to watch
Satluj.
In another moment during the live session, Dosanjh addressed the takedown, saying, “Hun tension nahi, sab ne kar layi download.”
“The youth today is talking about the film. I saw a lovely video about the film being shown at a gurudwara, possibly in Rajasthan. I am satisfied that the film has reached you,” he said.
Diljit Dosanjh on the struggle of releasing Satluj
Talking about the film, Dosanjh shared the difficulties he and the makers had to face to release the film since they did not seek help from either the Punjabi film industry or Bollywood. While talking to the fans in Punjabi, he explained, “We’ve been fighting to get this film released for the last three to four years. We never went to anyone asking for support. I never asked anyone from my industry, nor did I ever ask anyone in Bollywood to help release our film, support us, or stand by us. We fought this battle ourselves.”
He continued, “Everyone feels their own struggle is the biggest. Whatever work you are in, everyone is fighting their own battle on their own platform. We too brought our film to the audience on our own, got it released, and made sure it reached the people."
Satluj
Directed by Honey Trehan, Satluj was originally titled Ghallughara before being named Punjab '95 and ultimately Satluj. The film was reportedly stuck with the censors for more than three years as both Dosanjh and the makers refused to release the film with nearly 127 cuts suggested by the Central Board of Film Certification.
Ultimately, when the makers were able to release the film on ZEE5, it was removed after a short time. Sharing an official statement, the streaming platform wrote, “In light of the current developments, Satluj will be unavailable in India until further notice. We remain committed to exploring every appropriate avenue through due process to bring the film back to our audiences at the earliest opportunity."
Satluj follows the life of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, who investigated the cremation of thousands of unidentified bodies in Punjab during a 10-year period from 1984 to 1994 before disappearing in 1995. Alongside Dosanjh, the film also features Arjun Rampal, Kanwaljit Singh, Suvinder Vicky and Geetika Vidya Ohlyan in other prominent roles.
