Bengal's Electoral Roll
The first day of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bengal marked the beginning of a crucial process. The focus of the day was on the work of the Block
Level Officers (BLOs) as they went about their duties. The BLO's role is significant in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the electoral roll. They were responsible for visiting households and verifying details. On this day, one particular BLO covered 44 houses, which gave an indication of the scope and scale of the operation.
BLO's On-Ground Tasks
The BLO's daily operations involved several on-the-ground tasks as they interacted with residents. During their visits to the households, the BLOs engaged with residents to collect and confirm their details. This includes verifying existing entries, updating information where necessary, and adding new eligible voters to the rolls. The process also allowed the BLOs to cross-check information with available documentation and ensure the accuracy of the voter database.
Scrutiny and Challenges
Throughout the day, the BLO faced scrutiny during their fieldwork. There was a vigilant watch kept by the authorities on the procedures and operations undertaken by the BLO. Such observation is essential to ensure that the process adheres to guidelines. One of the challenges faced during the exercise was a malfunction in the application designed to aid the process.
