Partial Operations Resume
The United Arab Emirates' aviation infrastructure is transitioning into a phase of partial recovery following recent disruptions. Both Dubai International
(DXB) and Al Maktoum International (DWC) have reopened for operations, though they are not yet functioning at their usual capacity. Similarly, Abu Dhabi's Zayed International Airport and Sharjah International Airport are operating with a restricted number of flights. A key directive for all passengers is to confirm their booking and receive explicit instructions from their airline before proceeding to the airport, as access to terminals is strictly controlled. Operations in Dubai and Abu Dhabi remain dynamic, subject to ongoing safety assessments and regulatory approvals. Sharjah and the other Northern Emirates are providing real-time updates; Ras Al Khaimah (RKT) and Fujairah have also recommenced limited flight services.
Rebooking and Refunds
Passengers whose travel plans were impacted by the temporary airspace closure are eligible for penalty-free flight modifications. For Emirates, tickets purchased between February 28 and March 31, 2026, allow rebooking for travel up to April 30. flydubai is accommodating confirmed bookings, with refunds offered if connecting flights are no longer viable. Emirates city check-in facilities in Dubai are currently unavailable. Etihad Airways has recommenced select commercial flights from Abu Dhabi to major international hubs; ticket holders booked on or before February 28 can rebook without charge for travel until May 15. Air Arabia, which resumed limited operations on March 7, permits free date changes within 15 days of the original flight. To manage these changes efficiently, it is highly recommended to utilize airline mobile apps or the 'Manage Booking' section on their websites, as customer service lines are experiencing high call volumes.
Transit and Loyalty
The management of transit passengers is being handled with considerable care, with airlines only allowing those with confirmed and operational onward journeys. Travelers who booked through a travel agent must liant with them directly for re-routing assistance. For frequent flyers, loyalty programs like Emirates Skywards and Etihad Guest have assured that miles and tier points will be credited according to the original ticketed itinerary, providing reassurance for program members.
Traveler Checklist
Before heading to the airport, travelers are advised to perform several crucial checks. It is imperative to verify the live status of your flight using the official airline websites or apps before departing. Ensuring your contact details, including phone number and email address, are up-to-date in the 'Manage Booking' portal is vital for receiving important SMS alerts. Most importantly, if your flight status is marked as 'Cancelled' or 'Pending,' refrain from going to the airport to help prevent overcrowding and ensure smoother operations for those with confirmed travel plans.
