The Heist Unfolds
The alarming incident began on April 14th when Shravan Rawal, an employee responsible for cash handling at a garment firm in Andheri, was en route after
delivering ₹50 lakh to a client in Antop Hill. As he was transporting the remaining ₹32.50 lakh, a vehicle intercepted him around 9 PM. Three assailants allegedly forced him into their car, subjected him to threats, and made off with the substantial sum of money. He was subsequently abandoned in Ghatkopar, initiating a chain of events that would lead to a swift police response and investigation.
Investigation and Arrests
Following Rawal's initial report to Ghatkopar police, who then directed him to Antop Hill police station, a case was officially registered on April 15th after he informed his employer. The police launched a detailed investigation, employing technical analysis and scrutinizing past employees who had departed the company within the last year. This meticulous approach quickly narrowed the focus to Rahul Eknath Gaikwad, a former employee, and Irfan Ali Ahmed Ali Khan, a current staff member, who were identified as the alleged masterminds of the conspiracy. Gaikwad, in particular, is believed to have collaborated with an associate, Vivek Vilas Kakade, to orchestrate the robbery. The breakthrough came with the detention of one accused in Kurla, which rapidly led to the apprehension of five others. Three were apprehended in Goa and two in Nalasopara, demonstrating the extensive reach of the criminal network.
Recovered Assets and Suspects
The diligent efforts of the Mumbai Police have resulted in the recovery of a significant sum of ₹29.69 lakh, bringing back a substantial portion of the stolen cash. To date, six individuals have been arrested in connection with the kidnapping and robbery. The police have identified the arrested individuals as Rahul Eknath Gaikwad (30), Irfan Ali Ahmed Ali Khan (33), Vivek Vilas Kakade (32), Santosh Vasant Malekar (44), Swapnil Chandrakant Patil (34), and Mohammad Rizwan Ansar (41). Deputy Commissioner of Police Ragasudha confirmed that Rizwan Ansari, Santosh Malekar, and another individual who remains at large, were present in the vehicle during the abduction. The remaining arrested individuals played crucial roles in the planning and execution phases. The police are actively continuing their pursuit to locate and apprehend the two absconding suspects.
