The Terrifying Pursuit
A routine journey for a truck carrying fruits from Pattambi, Kerala, towards Nagpur took a nightmarish turn in Maharashtra. The truck, driven by Alwin
Pies and accompanied by assistant Mohammed Nadaf Nisar Qureshi, was en route from Kerala's Palakkad district to its destination in Nagpur. While passing through Hadgaon in Nanded district on a Friday night, a group of individuals in two cars and on a motorcycle allegedly became incensed after the truck purportedly brushed past them. This perceived slight ignited a furious chase that spanned an astonishing 20 to 30 kilometers. The aggressors relentlessly pursued the truck, their vehicles and motorcycle a menacing presence, before finally cornering it near Umarkhed, a locality in the adjacent Yavatmal district.
Brutal Attack and Injuries
Once the fruit-laden truck was brought to a halt by the determined pursuers, the violence escalated rapidly. The driver, Alwin Pies, and his assistant, Mohammed Nadaf Nisar Qureshi, were subjected to a brutal assault. According to initial reports, the attackers used sticks and other objects to inflict harm. While Alwin Pies sustained injuries described as minor, the situation for Mohammed Nadaf Nisar Qureshi was far more serious. He suffered severe trauma to his skull and nose, necessitating immediate medical attention. He was subsequently admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a private hospital situated near Nanded, a city approximately 600 kilometers away from Mumbai, underscoring the severity of his condition.
Swift Police Action
Responding to the alarming incident, the Maharashtra police moved with considerable speed to apprehend those responsible. An First Information Report (FIR) was officially registered against eight individuals implicated in the assault and chase. Out of these eight, seven have been successfully arrested. Police sources confirmed that all the arrested individuals are local residents and have no known affiliations with any specific organizations, attempting to quell any speculation of a broader conspiracy. The vehicles allegedly used in the commission of the crime are still undergoing investigation and have yet to be seized. A senior police official assured the public that appropriate legal measures are being implemented and that the situation is being handled with diligence, while also noting that some narratives circulating about the incident involve exaggeration and communal coloring, which the authorities are actively verifying.
