Price Adjustments Detailed
Consumers will notice updated prices across a range of dairy products from both Amul and Mother Dairy, commencing May 14. These revisions encompass popular
selections such as full cream milk, toned milk, varieties specifically from cows and buffaloes, and premium milk options. The extent of the price increase varies, ranging from a modest Rs 1 to a maximum of Rs 5 per unit, depending on the specific product and its packaging size. This proactive adjustment by the dairy giants aims to align with the evolving economic landscape affecting their operations and procurement strategies.
Amul's New Pricing
Amul, a widely recognized brand managed by the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation, has introduced price adjustments of Rs 1 to Rs 2 per litre across several of its product lines. Following these changes, a one-litre pack of Amul Gold will now be available for Rs 70, an increase from its previous price of Rs 68. Similarly, the cost of a one-litre pack of Amul Taaza has been revised to Rs 57, up from Rs 55. For consumers opting for buffalo milk, a 500 ml pack will now be priced at Rs 39, a Rs 1 increase from Rs 38. Cow milk in a 500 ml pack will see a minor uptick from Rs 29 to Rs 30. Beyond these examples, other variants, including Slim & Trim and Tea Special milk, have also undergone upward price revisions in various markets.
Mother Dairy's Revised Rates
Mother Dairy has also implemented price adjustments across a spectrum of its product offerings. For instance, a one-litre pack of buffalo milk will now retail at Rs 80, marking an increase from Rs 75. The 500 ml pack of buffalo milk has also been adjusted, with its price moving from Rs 76 to Rs 80. Consumers purchasing full cream milk will now pay Rs 72 for a one-litre pack, compared to Rs 69 previously. The 500 ml variant of full cream milk has also seen its price rise from Rs 70 to Rs 72. In addition to these, the company has revised prices for its double-toned milk, toned milk, cow milk, and Pro Milk varieties, affecting various distribution channels.
Underlying Cost Factors
The recurring adjustments in milk prices by both major dairy cooperatives are primarily attributed to escalating operational and procurement expenses. Several key factors are believed to be contributing to this latest round of price increases. These include a significant rise in the cost of cattle feed, which forms a substantial part of dairy farming expenses. Furthermore, increased transportation charges, driven by factors such as fuel costs, play a role. The rising costs associated with packaging materials, from cartons to pouches, also add to the overall expenditure. Most importantly, enhanced procurement prices paid to dairy farmers to ensure fair returns are a major consideration that ultimately influences the final retail price of milk.
