Flight Operations Affected
The persistent dense fog is significantly impacting flight operations across several Indian airports. Delhi Airport is particularly affected, with over
27 flights canceled and numerous others delayed. Several airlines, including SpiceJet and IndiGo, have issued warnings about potential disruptions at airports such as Gorakhpur, Patna, Darbhanga, Ayodhya, Ranchi, and Varanasi. Air India also alerted passengers about possible delays. This disruption underscores the severity of the fog and its widespread impact on air travel, causing inconvenience to numerous travelers.
Air Quality Deteriorates
Air quality across several cities is worsening, adding to the challenges posed by the weather. Delhi's air quality has deteriorated despite stricter measures to control pollution. In Maharashtra's Bhiwandi, the Air Quality Index (AQI) has reached 225. This situation underscores the urgency of addressing air pollution concerns. Authorities are implementing measures to mitigate the issue, but the immediate impact on public health remains a concern. These conditions affect people, amplifying health risks, especially for those sensitive to air pollution.
Regional Weather Patterns
Diverse weather patterns are emerging across different regions. Dense fog is blanketing areas, with Punjab's Moga facing significant visibility issues. Varanasi is under a 'yellow' alert due to the dense fog. Simultaneously, a cold wave has gripped the Kashmir Valley, with Srinagar experiencing temperatures as low as -0.2 degrees Celsius. High mountain passes and peaks in Himachal Pradesh are receiving light snowfall. These varying conditions highlight the wide range of weather experiences across the country and the necessity of region-specific preparedness and response strategies.
Commuter & Safety Concerns
Commuters in areas experiencing dense fog are facing considerable difficulties. Low visibility levels in Karnal are causing problems for those on the road. Tragically, in Uttar Pradesh's Kaushambi, a truck accident occurred in the fog, involving a girl on her way to school. Such incidents underscore the heightened risks associated with reduced visibility and the need for greater caution and safety measures. Authorities continue to issue advisories for safe driving and commuting, given the hazardous conditions caused by dense fog.
