Striking Exterior Design
The latest electric sedan arrives with a captivating exterior, embodying a fresh design philosophy. At its forefront, you'll notice a clean, contemporary
aesthetic accentuated by slender lighting signatures and distinctive daytime running lights. The bumper integrates a substantial air dam, complemented by vertical gloss-black air intakes on each side, contributing to a sophisticated look. Broad front fenders enhance the vehicle's athletic posture. From a side profile, it adopts a more conventional three-box sedan silhouette rather than the coupe-inspired styling common among many electric competitors, a design BMW labels "2.5-box." The bodywork presents smooth, minimalist surfaces, further enhanced by flush door handles and elegantly designed alloy wheels. The rear design is characterized by its crisp simplicity, featuring slim, unconnected taillamps and understated black detailing on the lower section. Dimensions are generous, with a length of 4,760mm, a width of 1,865mm, and a wheelbase measuring 2,897mm, promising ample interior space.
Futuristic Interior Comfort
Stepping inside, the cabin exudes a futuristic and minimalist ambiance, borrowing several sophisticated elements from its sibling, the iX3. Notable features include a distinctively shaped steering wheel and an expansive 17.9-inch infotainment display. Adding to the innovative layout is a wide Panoramic Vision display that stretches across the dashboard, ingeniously serving as the driver's instrument cluster. The emphasis on a clean aesthetic is evident in the minimal use of physical buttons. The center console houses controls for essential functions and a tactile rotary drive selector. Among the premium features are powered front seats, customizable ambient lighting, convenient wireless charging, Level 2 Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) for enhanced safety, a novel AI assistant, and an optional 3D head-up display, all designed to elevate the driving and passenger experience.
Unprecedented Performance
Engineered on the advanced 800V Neue Klasse platform, this electric sedan is set to make its debut with a potent dual-motor '50 xDrive' configuration. This powertrain delivers an impressive 469 horsepower and a substantial 645 Nm of torque, ensuring exhilarating acceleration and responsive performance. While the exact battery capacity remains unconfirmed, industry expectations point towards a robust 108.7kWh pack, aligning with similar specifications found in the iX3. This setup enables a remarkable WLTP-certified driving range of 900 kilometers on a single charge, setting a new benchmark for electric vehicles. Furthermore, the i3 boasts ultra-fast 400kW DC charging capabilities, allowing drivers to replenish up to 400 kilometers of range in a mere 10 minutes. For everyday convenience, it also supports 22kW AC charging.
Production and Availability
The manufacturing of this cutting-edge electric sedan is scheduled to commence in August 2026 at BMW's established Munich facility. Following the initial production run, global deliveries are anticipated to begin towards the end of the same year. Regarding the Indian market, the iX3 is slated for an early 2027 introduction. Consequently, it remains to be seen whether this highly anticipated i3 sedan will also be made available to consumers in India, adding an element of anticipation for local electric vehicle enthusiasts.
