Champions Rewarded Generously
Following their spectacular triumph in the Under-19 World Cup, the victorious Indian squad has been recognized with a substantial cash prize of Rs 7.5
crore from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). This announcement celebrates the team's dominant performance throughout the tournament, culminating in an emphatic 100-run victory against England in the final match held at Harare Sports Club. The BCCI secretary, Devajit Saikia, expressed immense pride in the young squad's ability to perform under immense pressure on the world stage, commending their undefeated streak and the decisive win in the championship game.
Batting Blitz Secures Title
The foundation of India's Under-19 World Cup victory was laid by an extraordinary batting performance, spearheaded by Vaibhav Sooryavanshi under the captaincy of Ayush Mhatre. The team amassed an imposing total of 411 for 9 in the final, setting England a daunting target. Sooryavanshi was the undisputed star of the match, delivering a phenomenal 175 runs that effectively decided the outcome. He reached his century in an astonishing 55 balls, marking the second-fastest hundred in the history of the Under-19 World Cup, and had previously achieved a half-century in a mere 32 deliveries. His aggressive batting continued as he added his next fifty runs in just 23 balls, leaving the English team struggling to find any answers to India's offensive onslaught.
Bowling Dominance Seals Victory
While the batting set a formidable precedent, India's bowling attack proved equally decisive in securing the Under-19 World Cup title. Despite a valiant century from England's Caleb Falconer in their chase of 412, the Indian bowlers consistently took wickets at crucial intervals, preventing the opposition from building any meaningful momentum. This sustained pressure ensured that England's pursuit never gained traction, ultimately leading to their dismissal for 311 runs. The disciplined bowling effort, coupled with the immense score posted by the batsmen, sealed India's sixth U19 World Cup title with a convincing margin.
