Unfortunate Attack in Ufa
A disturbing incident unfolded at a dormitory housing foreign students at a medical university in Ufa, located in Russia's Bashkortostan Republic. The
event, which transpired on a Saturday, saw several individuals sustain injuries, with four of them being Indian students. In addition to the students, two police officers were also reportedly wounded during the altercation. The Indian Embassy in Russia swiftly confirmed its awareness of the situation and stated that it is actively engaged with the local authorities to monitor the unfolding investigation and provide necessary support. Officials from the Consulate in Kazan were dispatched to Ufa to offer direct assistance to the injured Indian students, underscoring the severity of the incident and the commitment to their well-being.
Assailant and Injuries
Preliminary accounts suggest that a young individual, reportedly a teenager and armed with a knife, initiated the attack within the premises of the Bashkir State Medical University's dormitory. The motive behind the assault remains under investigation. Russia's Interior Ministry has officially acknowledged the incident. According to statements from Major General Irina Volk, a spokesperson for the Interior Ministry, the assailant offered resistance when attempting to apprehend them, leading to the stabbing of two police officers. It was also noted that the suspect inflicted injuries upon themselves. While the identities of all injured parties have not been officially released, reports from sources like the Telegram channel 112 indicated that at least one of the victims was Indian, with some accounts even suggesting the possibility of more than one attacker involved in the incident.
Investigation and Aftermath
Following the violent event, the Investigative Committee has formally launched a comprehensive probe to determine the full circumstances surrounding the stabbings. The alleged attacker, identified as a 15-year-old, was taken to a local children's hospital and is reported to be in serious condition. Concurrently, the four injured students and the two wounded police officers are receiving medical attention at a nearby clinical hospital. Eyewitnesses have described a chaotic and distressing scene in the aftermath of the attack, with one individual recounting the presence of blood throughout the area, as reported by Ren TV. This media outlet also broadcast footage capturing ambulances transporting the injured individuals to medical facilities, painting a vivid picture of the immediate consequences of the assault.
