Widespread Service Disruption
Claude AI has recently encountered a significant technical issue, leading to its second major outage within a three-day period. The disruption began around
14:53 UTC (8:23 pm IST) and, as of the latest reports, the AI chatbot remained inaccessible for many. Data from Downdetector indicated a peak of 6,500 users reporting problems, with specific issues affecting Claude Chat (36%), Claude Code (30%), and the general app (25%). Even the tech team at Times of India experienced difficulties, being unable to access the mobile app and encountering messages like "Service is temporarily busy. You can try again shortly" or "Page not found. Claude can help with many things, but finding this page isn’t one of them" on the web interface. This widespread unavailability has left numerous individuals unable to utilize the AI's capabilities.
Company Acknowledges & Responds
Anthropic, the developer behind Claude AI, formally acknowledged the ongoing service issue, labeling it a "Partial Outage" on their status page. They specifically noted an "Unresolved incident: Elevated errors on Claude.ai, API, Claude Code." Engineers at Anthropic quickly identified the root cause and were actively engaged in implementing a fix for the login errors. By 15:20 UTC (9:50 pm IST), the company reported that the Claude API issue had been resolved, though efforts were still underway to address other persistent problems. They stated, "The Claude API has fully recovered as of 8:01 PT / 16:01 UTC. We are currently working on mitigating the ongoing errors for Claude AI. Claude Code users who are logged in are still able to use it, but logging in is still broken." Later updates indicated progress, with success rates for logging into Claude.ai, including via Claude Code, stabilizing, and the team working towards a complete resolution.
Recurring Outages Raise Concerns
The repeated nature of these service interruptions is beginning to attract significant attention and concern. This marks the second instance in merely three days where Claude has been rendered non-operational. A similar "major outage" occurred the previous week, leaving both the chatbot and its coding tools "out of order" for an extended period. Specifically, on April 7, both functionalities experienced significant downtime. The recurrence of these crashes is prompting questions about the platform's stability and reliability, especially given its growing user base and integration into various workflows. Users are hopeful for a swift and lasting resolution to prevent future disruptions.
