Swift Commute Unveiled
The much-anticipated Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, recently inaugurated, has fundamentally altered the travel landscape between the capital and the popular
hill station. Previously a journey that could stretch up to six hours, this new corridor promises to condense that time to a remarkably short two hours and fifty-five minutes. This significant reduction is not merely an estimate; it was confirmed during test runs conducted by the Uttarakhand Transport Corporation (UTC) between the ISBTs of both cities. The primary objective behind this expedited route, as stated by UTC's AGM, is to prioritize passenger convenience and optimize travel speed, ensuring a more efficient and pleasant experience for commuters heading to Dehradun.
Substantial Fare Reductions
In conjunction with the reduced travel time, commuters can now enjoy considerable savings on bus fares, thanks to fare adjustments implemented by UTC. This optimization is a direct result of the shorter distance and improved fuel efficiency offered by the new expressway. For those opting for premium Volvo services, the fare has dropped from the previous Rs 945 to a new Rs 709, marking a substantial saving of Rs 236. Passengers preferring AC class will now pay Rs 557, a decrease from the earlier Rs 704, saving Rs 147. Even the ordinary bus services have seen a reduction, with fares moving from Rs 420 down to Rs 355, providing a saving of Rs 65. These revised rates make traveling to Dehradun significantly more economical across all service tiers.
Engineering and Access
The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway stands as a significant feat of engineering, designed to facilitate rapid transit at speeds of up to 100 km/h. This ambitious project spans a considerable length, ranging from 6 to 12 lanes depending on the specific segment, commencing from Akshardham in Delhi and traversing through Loni, Baghpat, Baraut, Shamli, and Saharanpur before reaching Dehradun. A key feature of this expansive network is a dedicated 50.7 km side stretch that offers expedited access to Haridwar, enabling travelers to reach the holy city from Delhi in just approximately 2 hours. Furthermore, the expressway incorporates an impressive 12 km-long overhead bridge, recognized as the longest wildlife corridor in Asia, passing through the ecologically vital Rajaji National Park, thereby prioritizing environmental conservation alongside infrastructure development.
