Entry into Electric Mobility
A notable player has officially entered India's burgeoning electric vehicle landscape with the launch of its first electric scooter. Priced at Rs 1,67,600
(ex-showroom, Delhi), this new entrant is available in a single Bluish White color option. Initially, sales will be concentrated in select urban centers, exclusively through Yamaha's premium 'Blue Square' dealerships. This strategic introduction signifies a significant step for the company into the electric mobility sector. The manufacturer highlighted that this launch directly supports the Indian government's 'National Mission on Transformative Mobility' and aligns with the nation's ambitious target of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2070. Furthermore, the company stated that introducing this model reinforces their broader commitment to carbon neutrality, adhering to both Indian emission standards and the country's vision for a more sustainable and self-reliant future.
Powertrain and Battery Specs
This electric scooter is propelled by an Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (IPMSM), which works in conjunction with a substantial 4kWh fixed battery pack. This setup allows the scooter to achieve a respectable top speed of 79 km/h. It generates a maximum torque of 26 Nm and delivers a peak power output of 6.7 kW, ensuring responsive acceleration for city commutes. The battery unit itself comes with a robust warranty of 3 years or up to 30,000 kilometers, providing peace of mind for owners. Recharging the battery to full capacity is estimated to take approximately eight hours when using a standard home charging solution. The scooter offers a certified range of 169 kilometers on a single full charge, making it a practical option for daily travel without frequent stops for charging.
Durability and Riding Modes
Designed with resilience in mind, the scooter boasts strong water and dust resistance. The motor and battery components are certified to the IP67 standard, signifying their ability to withstand immersion in water up to a certain depth and protection against dust ingress. Other electronic components on the scooter are rated IP65, ensuring protection against water jets and dust. To cater to a variety of riding preferences and conditions, the EC-06 is equipped with three distinct riding modes: Eco, Standard, and Power. These modes allow riders to tailor the scooter's performance, prioritizing fuel efficiency, balanced performance, or maximum acceleration as per their needs. Additionally, a practical Reverse Mode is included, which significantly simplifies the process of maneuvering the scooter in confined spaces like parking lots.
Chassis and Advanced Tech
The scooter's ride comfort is managed by a telescopic front suspension system featuring hydraulic dampers, complemented by a coil spring at the rear for effective shock absorption. For braking, it is outfitted with 200mm disc brakes on both the front and rear wheels, further enhanced by a Combi Brake System (CBS) for improved stopping power and stability. The rider interface is centered around an LCD screen that provides essential real-time information, including current speed, battery status, selected riding mode, and connectivity status. Key highlights of the scooter's features include energy-efficient LED lighting for both the headlights and taillights, integrated connected technology for modern convenience, and a practical under-seat storage compartment offering 24.5 liters of space, ideal for carrying daily essentials.
