Accelerated Travel Times
The advent of the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway marks a significant leap forward in intercity connectivity, fundamentally altering the travel experience between
these two key locations. What was once a considerable undertaking, often requiring up to six hours of driving, has been drastically condensed. Through meticulous planning and advanced engineering, the journey is now estimated to be completed in a remarkably short span of approximately two hours and 55 minutes. This impressive reduction has been validated through test runs conducted by the Uttarakhand Transport Corporation (UTC) between their ISBT terminals in Delhi and Dehradun, prioritizing passenger efficiency and swift transit.
Affordable Fare Adjustments
In tandem with the expedited travel times offered by the new expressway, a series of fare reductions have been implemented for public transport. These adjustments aim to pass on the savings from reduced travel duration and fuel consumption directly to commuters. For premium Volvo services, the fare has been revised from Rs 945 down to Rs 709, representing a saving of Rs 236. Similarly, AC-class travel now costs Rs 557, a decrease from the previous Rs 704, saving passengers Rs 147. Even ordinary bus services benefit from this revision, with fares dropping from Rs 420 to Rs 355, a saving of Rs 65. These changes ensure that the enhanced speed and convenience come with a more accessible price point for all travelers.
Engineering Marvels Unveiled
The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway is not merely a route for faster transit; it stands as a testament to modern civil engineering. Designed to accommodate speeds of up to 100 km/h, its construction is a feat of innovative design and execution. The expansive highway spans between 6 to 12 lanes, originating from Akshardham in Delhi and weaving its way through Loni, Baghpat, Baraut, Shamli, and Saharanpur before reaching its destination in Dehradun. A crucial addition is a 50.7 km spur that provides rapid access to Haridwar, reducing the travel time from Delhi to this holy city to just around 2 hours. Furthermore, the project incorporates a remarkable 12 km elevated corridor, recognized as the longest wildlife corridor in Asia, traversing the Rajaji National Park and ensuring ecological continuity alongside infrastructural development.
