Metro Line 5A Expansion
A substantial infrastructure development is underway in Maharashtra, with the state government sanctioning a significant expansion for Metro Line 5A, a project
valued at Rs 18,130.55 crore. This ambitious undertaking will introduce a 34.21-kilometer route featuring 19 new stations, aiming to drastically improve connectivity for the rapidly developing areas of Thane, Bhiwandi, Kalyan, and Ulhasnagar. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis highlighted the extensive reach of this project, stating that it is expected to directly benefit close to 69 lakh individuals who rely on public transport. The expansion has been meticulously planned in phases: the initial phase will connect Kapurbawdi to Dhamankar Naka, followed by a second phase linking Dhamankar Naka to Durgadi. Ultimately, the extended corridor will seamlessly integrate Durgadi, Kalyan, and Ulhasnagar, forging a cohesive and efficient suburban transit network. This development is projected to slash travel times by an impressive 40 to 50 percent, offering much-needed relief from the current congestion on roads and the overcrowding on local trains for countless daily commuters. To ensure a swift commencement, the Chief Minister has issued directives to all relevant departments to expedite necessary approvals from central government agencies and other pertinent bodies.
Vidarbha Expressway Network
In tandem with the metro expansion, Maharashtra is also prioritizing the enhancement of transportation networks in its eastern region, Vidarbha. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has instructed the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) to establish stringent execution timelines for three major expressway projects within Vidarbha. Furthermore, he has urged the Finance Department to promptly coordinate efforts to secure funding, potentially through HUDCO, for land acquisition processes crucial for these corridors. All three expressway projects are slated for completion within a six-year timeframe. The approved projects include the Nagpur-Gondia Expressway, spanning 162.577 kilometers with an estimated cost of Rs 19,582.19 crore, for which Rs 3,162.18 crore has been allocated for land acquisition. The Bhandara-Gadchiroli Corridor will cover 94.241 kilometers, with Rs 931.15 crore set aside for land acquisition. Lastly, the Nagpur-Chandrapur Expressway will extend over 204.799 kilometers, with Rs 2,353.94 crore designated for land acquisition. These highway initiatives are seen as instrumental in fostering economic advancement throughout Vidarbha, strengthening transportation links, and opening up new avenues for industrial development across the region.
