Production Milestone Achieved
In a groundbreaking move, Mercedes-Benz India has begun the local production of the Mercedes-Maybach GLS, a decision that positions India as the first
country outside the United States to undertake such manufacturing. This landmark achievement underscores the increasing significance of the Indian market for the German luxury carmaker, demonstrating the company’s confidence in the robust demand for top-end vehicles within the country. The initiative to manufacture the Mercedes-Maybach GLS locally is expected to further enhance the appeal of the vehicle, showcasing world-class manufacturing capabilities and agility while catering to the preferences of customers seeking exclusive, high-end models.
Sales Performance Review
During the year 2025, Mercedes-Benz India sold a total of 19,007 units. While this figure was slightly less than the 19,565 units sold in 2024, the company still managed to achieve its best-ever year in terms of revenue. The Top-End Vehicles portfolio, encompassing models like the S-Class, Mercedes-Maybach, and AMG cars, displayed strong resilience, with an 11% year-on-year growth. This segment accounted for 25% of total sales, reflecting the rising preference for ultra-luxury vehicles in the Indian market. The EQS SUV remained the company’s leading luxury electric vehicle in India, contributing significantly to overall sales figures.
EV and AMG Growth
The electric vehicle (EV) segment for Mercedes-Benz India also experienced notable growth, increasing by 12% year-on-year. This segment represented 20% of all top-end Mercedes-Benz cars sold in the country. Remarkably, 70% of the electric vehicles sold were from the top-end segment, with prices ranging between Rs 1.25 crore and Rs 3.1 crore. These included models like the EQS SUV, EQS Sedan, Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV, and the Mercedes-Benz G580. Moreover, the high-performance AMG portfolio demonstrated exceptional performance, registering a substantial 34% growth, indicating a strong interest among Indian customers for performance-oriented luxury vehicles. The ongoing growth of the EV business further solidifies Mercedes-Benz India's market position.

According to Mercedes-Benz India, the local manufacturing of the Mercedes-Maybach GLS will not only strengthen its top-end portfolio but also help the brand better respond to the growing demand, thereby reinforcing its long-term commitment to the Indian market. This strategic move is expected to enhance the appeal of the vehicles while showcasing the company's dedication to its Indian customers. The decision to initiate local production underscores the company’s focus on the Indian market, positioning it as a pivotal player in the luxury automotive sector.
