New Passenger Comfort Hub
Pune Railway Station has recently launched a significant upgrade to passenger amenities with the introduction of air-conditioned sleeping pods and an executive
lounge. This new facility aims to provide travelers with a much-needed resting spot, especially for those experiencing train delays or requiring short stays. Located on the first floor of the reservation building, the setup features 26 compact sleeping pods, all part of a larger initiative to enhance passenger convenience. The project, which officially opened its doors to the public on March 23rd, operates under a non-fare revenue model. This means Indian Railways has partnered with a private operator who manages the construction and daily operations of the facility, contributing an annual license fee to the railways.
Affordable Rest Options
Passengers can now choose from a range of flexible pricing options for both the executive lounge and the sleeping pods. The executive lounge offers a comfortable space for a nominal fee of Rs 40 per hour. For those needing a more private resting space, the sleeping pods are available on a pay-per-use basis, ensuring you only pay for the time you actually utilize. The rates for the pods are structured to be economical: Rs 300 for 3 hours, Rs 400 for 6 hours, Rs 500 for 9 hours, and Rs 600 for a 12-hour stay. For extended rest, a 24-hour booking is available for Rs 1,200. All these prices are inclusive of taxes, making it a transparent and cost-effective alternative to traditional accommodation options during travel.
Pod and Lounge Amenities
The sleeping pods are designed to be compact, secure, and comfortable resting units, ideal for a quick nap or a short overnight stay. Complementing the pods, the executive lounge is equipped with a suite of amenities to ensure a pleasant waiting experience. These include air-conditioned seating for ultimate comfort, television for entertainment, well-maintained washrooms, complimentary Wi-Fi connectivity, convenient mobile charging points, and individual reading lights. For added security and peace of mind, the lounge features CCTV surveillance. Additionally, a dedicated baby feeding room is available for parents, and 17 three-seater sofa sets have been installed to provide ample and comfortable seating.
Booking and Comparison
Currently, booking for the sleeping pods and the executive lounge can only be done directly at the station; there is no online reservation system in place. This direct booking method ensures a straightforward process for travelers on the go. While Pune Railway Station already offers retiring rooms and dormitories managed by IRCTC, this new sleeping pod facility presents a more modern, flexible, and contemporary choice. It caters particularly to travelers who need just a few hours of rest between connecting trains and prefer not to incur the cost of a full hotel stay. The initiative is anticipated to significantly boost passenger convenience and generate revenue for Indian Railways through more efficient space utilization.
