Expressway Set To Open
Excitement is building for the imminent launch of the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway, a project poised to revolutionize travel between these two major Uttar
Pradesh cities. Originally slated for an April 21st opening, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has adjusted the schedule, targeting April 28th for its official inauguration. This grand opening is anticipated to be graced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, pending final confirmation from his office. Once the green signal is given by the Prime Minister's Office, the expressway will immediately be accessible to the public, marking a new era of streamlined transit for thousands of daily commuters and businesses operating in the region. The development promises to alleviate the persistent congestion and challenging road conditions currently experienced on National Highway 27, offering a much-needed improvement in the overall travel experience.
Drastic Time Reduction
The impact of the new Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway on travel time is nothing short of transformative. Presently, navigating the existing 94-kilometer route between the two cities can consume a considerable 2.5 to 3 hours due to heavy traffic and varied road conditions. However, the newly constructed six-lane expressway has been designed to drastically cut this duration. Spanning a more efficient 63 kilometers, this modern artery allows for a maximum speed of 120 km/h. Consequently, the journey is projected to be completed in a mere 30 to 45 minutes. This substantial reduction not only offers immense convenience but also significantly enhances road safety by minimizing the time spent on the road and thus, potentially lowering accident risks associated with prolonged travel.
Finalized Toll Charges
While the new Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway promises unparalleled convenience and speed, commuters should be aware of the updated toll structure, which represents a significant increase compared to the current rates on NH-27. For a one-way trip on the existing highway, car users currently pay approximately Rs 95. This figure is set to rise to Rs 275 for a one-way journey on the new expressway, indicating an increase of roughly 186%. The finalized toll rates for different vehicle categories are as follows: Cars, Jeeps, and SUVs will be charged Rs 275 for a one-way trip and Rs 415 for a return journey within 24 hours. Light commercial vehicles will face a one-way toll of Rs 445, with a return trip costing Rs 670. Buses and trucks will incur Rs 935 for a one-way journey and Rs 1405 for a return trip. Heavy commercial vehicles (HCM) will be charged Rs 1020 for a one-way trip and Rs 1530 for a return journey. Authorities have strictly stipulated that only four-wheelers and heavy vehicles will be permitted on the expressway, ensuring a smoother flow of high-speed traffic.
Boosting Regional Connectivity
The Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway is poised to deliver substantial benefits, acting as a major catalyst for improved connectivity and economic growth in the region. Daily commuters, business travelers, and logistics operators stand to gain immensely from the dramatically reduced travel times and enhanced road quality. This improved transit infrastructure will not only make daily journeys more manageable but also foster stronger business ties and facilitate the smoother movement of goods and services between these two pivotal cities. By bridging the distance more efficiently, the expressway is expected to stimulate economic activity, potentially leading to increased investment and development across the Lucknow-Kanpur corridor, solidifying its importance as a vital economic hub within Uttar Pradesh.
