A transformative change is on the horizon for commuters traversing the burgeoning northern suburban stretches of Mumbai. Western Railway is set to deploy
15-car local train services beyond Virar, extending for the first time all the way to Dahanu. Until now, this particular section has been served by 12-car trains, while the core Churchgate-Virar corridor has already benefited from longer configurations. This strategic expansion involves upgrading 17 existing services to the extended 15-car format. Out of these, a notable 8 trains will operate on the Virar-Dahanu route, introducing a completely new level of capacity to this segment. The remaining 9 services will continue to operate on the busy Churchgate-Virar line, where passenger congestion remains a persistent issue. The primary goal of these longer trains is to significantly increase the carrying capacity per service, offering a more comfortable and efficient travel experience for the ever-growing number of passengers.
Easing Suburban Crowding
This significant upgrade is poised to provide substantial relief for daily commuters navigating the increasingly populated areas of Vasai and Palghar.
