Chennai-Thiruvananthapuram Route
To accommodate the heightened travel demand during the summer holidays, Southern Railway has implemented a significant capacity increase on the Chennai
Central-Thiruvananthapuram AC Superfast Express. Specifically, train number 22207 will operate with two additional AC three-tier coaches from March 31st through May 5th. The corresponding return service, train 22208, will feature these extra coaches from April 1st to May 6th. This strategic addition is designed to provide greater accessibility and a more pleasant travel experience for passengers journeying between these major southern cities during the busy period.
Tirupati Sapthagiri Express
The popular Sapthagiri Express, connecting Chennai and Tirupati, is also set to receive an upgrade to enhance passenger comfort and availability. Trains numbered 16053 and 16054 will be augmented with an additional chair car (CC) coach. This enhancement will be in effect from March 30th to June 2nd, ensuring more seating is available for those traveling to the revered city of Tirupati. Furthermore, the parallel service, identified by train numbers 16057 and 16058, will also benefit from this increased seating capacity during the same extended period, aiming to reduce wait times and ticket scarcity.
Yercaud Express Upgrades
Passengers utilizing the Chennai-Erode Yercaud Express will experience improved travel conditions with the addition of extra coaches. Train number 22649 will be equipped with one additional sleeper coach starting from April 1st and continuing until June 4th. This provides more options for those traveling this particular route. The return journey, train 22650, will also offer this added capacity from March 29th to June 1st. These adjustments are crucial for managing the seasonal increase in passenger volume and ensuring a more comfortable journey for all.
Additional Route Enhancements
Beyond the specifically mentioned services, Southern Railway's commitment to easing the summer travel crunch extends to other key corridors. Extra coaches are also being introduced on the routes connecting Chennai to Charlapalli and Rameswaram to Mangalore Central. Railway authorities have confirmed that these proactive measures are anticipated to significantly alleviate issues related to ticket shortages and contribute to a smoother, more convenient travel experience for passengers during this peak travel season. The focus remains on ensuring reliability and comfort for a large number of travelers.
