An Unprecedented May Journey
In a move that marks a significant departure from its usual operational calendar, Rajasthan's celebrated 'Palace on Wheels' luxury train has embarked on a journey
during the month of May for the very first time in its 45-year history. Typically, this period is avoided due to the severe heat and scorching winds characteristic of Rajasthan's summers. However, a surge in traveler demand, coupled with a unique charter booking by a nationalized bank, prompted the North Western Railway to make this exceptional decision. The train, accommodating 84 guests on this special occasion, is proving that the allure of this regal experience transcends even the most challenging climatic conditions. Special provisions have been meticulously arranged to ensure guest comfort amidst the desert heat, including readily available lemon water, rehydrating Glucon-D, and a variety of cold beverages throughout the entire trip.
A Special Charter Experience
This unique May voyage of the 'Palace on Wheels' is made possible by an exclusive charter by a nationalized bank, transforming the legendary train into a private moving sanctuary for 84 esteemed guests. This arrangement, a rarity in the train's operational history, underscores the enduring appeal and prestige associated with this heritage railway experience. The decision to operate in May, despite the anticipated intense heat, was driven by a noticeable increase in inquiries and a desire from travelers to experience the train's opulence even during the summer months. To mitigate the effects of the desert climate, extensive comfort measures have been implemented. Guests can expect constant access to cooling refreshments, including refreshing lemon water, energy-boosting Glucon-D, and an assortment of chilled beverages, ensuring a pleasant and memorable journey regardless of the external temperatures.
The Regal Route Unveiled
The special May itinerary of the 'Palace on Wheels' commences its journey from Delhi on May 20th, with its first destination being Jaipur, where guests are slated to receive a grand welcome upon arrival on the morning of May 21st. Following this, the train embarks on a comprehensive 2,610 km route, showcasing Rajasthan's most captivating locales. Key stops include the enchanting cities of Udaipur, the golden desert city of Jaisalmer, and the historic Bikaner. A significant aspect of this tour is that from May 21st to May 24th, the train itself serves as the exclusive accommodation, functioning as a mobile hotel, restaurant, and lounge, allowing guests to immerse themselves fully in the luxury experience without frequent disembarkations. Previous tours in Jaipur involved excursions to landmarks like Albert Hall, Hawa Mahal, and City Palace, complemented by lunch arrangements at Lohagarh Resort.
Heritage Luxury Defined
Launched in 1982 as a pioneering collaboration between the Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation and Indian Railways, the 'Palace on Wheels' stands as India's inaugural luxury heritage train. Its fleet comprises 14 meticulously designed coaches, each bearing the name of a former princely state of Rajasthan, such as Jaipur, Jodhpur, and Udaipur. The interiors are adorned with decor that authentically reflects Rajasthani heritage, and each coach is equipped with modern amenities like air conditioning, en-suite washrooms, and Wi-Fi connectivity. Culinary experiences are catered for in two distinct dining coaches, 'Sheesh Mahal' and 'Swarn Mahal', offering a diverse menu spanning Indian, continental, and Chinese cuisines. This train offers an unparalleled experience, often described as a moving royal palace, complete with services like a spa, personal butlers, and a bar car, ensuring a journey of utmost comfort and indulgence.
