A Bespoke Masterpiece
Rolls-Royce has introduced its first-ever all-electric two-seater convertible concept, christened Project Nightingale. This exclusive creation is part
of the brand's highly selective coachbuild collection, a bespoke program where unique vehicles are meticulously crafted by the in-house Coachbuild department. Production will be strictly limited to a mere 100 units globally, with the first deliveries slated to commence in 2028. A notable distinction of Project Nightingale is its imposing Pantheon grille, which boasts the widest frame and the greatest number of individual slats found on any Rolls-Royce to date, emphasizing its commanding presence. The very name, "Nightingale," is a nod to "La Rosseignol," meaning "the nightingale" in French, which was the designation of a house on the estate of Rolls-Royce founder Henry Royce located on the French Riviera. This concept draws significant inspiration from the legendary 'EX' series of Rolls-Royce models, landmark vehicles that played a pivotal role in the manufacturer's storied past. These 'EX' models were originally developed by Henry Royce in 1928 with the express purpose of outperforming competitors like Bentley in terms of sheer top speed.
Exterior Elegance Redefined
The exterior of Project Nightingale presents a striking departure from conventional automotive design while retaining quintessential Rolls-Royce hallmarks. It features distinctive vertical headlamps, a notable shift from the horizontal units typically seen on the brand's vehicles. The V-shaped bonnet and a smooth bumper finish are carefully preserved, as is the expansive Pantheon grille. The front bumper is further enhanced with a carbon fibre apron accented by a chrome outline. When viewed from the side, the stainless steel frame for the front quarter window takes cues from the elegant design of the Phantom Drophead Coupe. A singular, defining 'hull' line flows seamlessly from the front to the rear of the car on both flanks, complemented by carbon fibre finished door sills. The vehicle is equipped with massive 24-inch alloy wheels, the largest ever fitted to a Rolls-Royce, which are designed to resemble yacht propellers. Adding to its sophisticated aesthetic, two narrow stainless steel strips run along each side of the car. The convertible roof is constructed from advanced, sound-deadening high-performance composite materials, ingeniously combined with luxurious cashmere and fabric for an unparalleled sensory experience. The rear section features an elongated, sloping tail design, directly inspired by the classic Rolls-Royce EX models. The boot opens sideways, akin to a grand piano lid, and houses a vertical brake light. Additionally, there are two slender vertical tail-lamps positioned on either side, and a carbon fibre diffuser engineered to ensure exceptional high-speed stability without the need for a rear spoiler.
Riviera-Inspired Interior
The interior of Project Nightingale is a luxurious sanctuary, deeply inspired by the serene ambiance of the French Riviera. The seats are elegantly upholstered in a sophisticated combination of blue and white, accented with navy blue inserts and delicate pink contrast stitching, creating a visually captivating effect. The dashboard is adorned with an open-pore black wood trim, arranged in a distinctive V-shape, and integrates physical buttons for intuitive control of the centre console. A unique motorized centre armrest is a highlight, automatically retracting to reveal a Spirit of Ecstasy rotary dial when a door is opened. With a further press of a button, the armrest slides back completely to uncover a discreet storage compartment. The ambient lighting system, which gracefully extends from the doors and elegantly encircles the seats, is meticulously designed to emulate the intricate sound-wave patterns generated by the calls of nightingales. This advanced lighting system, known as the Starlight Breeze suite, comprises an astonishing 10,500 individual LED elements, creating an immersive and enchanting atmosphere within the cabin.
Electric Powertrain Future
Project Nightingale operates exclusively on an all-electric powertrain, marking a significant step into the future of luxury automotive propulsion for Rolls-Royce. While specific power output figures and detailed battery capacity information have not yet been officially disclosed, insights can be drawn from the brand's existing electric offerings. For context, the Rolls-Royce Spectre, the marque's current production electric vehicle, is equipped with a substantial 102 kWh battery pack. This powertrain configuration, in its standard guise, delivers a formidable 584 horsepower and 900 Nm of torque. The performance-oriented Black Badge variant of the Spectre elevates these figures further, producing an impressive 659 horsepower and 1075 Nm of torque, demonstrating the potent capabilities of Rolls-Royce's electric drive systems.
